Although still a relative youngin’ Alex Perelson is hands down one of the best pro vertical skateboarders of all time. There’s just the small matter of this one thing that is standing between him and a win at every contest he enters (and it’s not Bucky Lasek). It’s his head. Alex has a tendency to, let’s just say fail to live up to his own sky high expectations when Double D announces it’s time for him to take his runs, but this might be a good time to add that there’s more to vertical skateboarding than contest runs.
Alex grew up in San Diego with a supportive family, a healthy supply of vert ramps (and pros to skate them with), and such natural ability and style that by age 11 it was obvious he was going to be one of the greats. Originally known as Mini Navs due to his pulling up his socks and bro-ing down with the full sized Navs, he outgrew the name somewhere around the time he learned 720’s and started going nine feet.
Famous for not saying much Alex lets his skating do the talking, and it made a pretty convincing argument for why he’s such a champ at the 2009 Maloof Money Cup when he became the fourth skater of all time to put down a 900. Apparently things were clicking in Alex’s head that day. From there it was just a question of how many points he’d win by. If Alex can find a way to get things clicking like that at the other contests, his peers are going to have to be happy skating for second.
