Bucky Lasek is great at everything, whether its racing go-carts, playing lawn darts, or color coordinating his gear. The only obvious thing that the undisputed king of the Dew Tour vert ramp is terrible at is this: LOSING.
Bucky grew up an only child in Baltimore, MD, which whet his appetite for being the center of attention. He found his calling at the age of 12 when Santa left a Steve Caballero board under the Christmas tree. A short time later luck and fate led him to the vertical playground known affectionately as Hell Ramp. In 1988 he blasted onto the national scene with a groundbreaking part in the Powell Peralta video Public Domain and was rewarded with his own Powell Peralta signature pro model two short years later.
Over the course of Bucky’s two-decade plus career, he’s proved time and again to be the fiercest, and most composed of any competitor on the pipe. With a never say die attitude, a perfectionist’s approach to putting together contest runs, and an uncanny ability to pull out a miracle when necessary, Bucky has taken home multiple Dew Cups, back to back X Games vert golds (twice), Vans Triple Crown titles, etc, etc. All this despite numerous injuries, with scoped knees as a recurring theme. He forever will reign as the winningest vert skater of the 2000s -- or whatever you choose to call that last decade.
Bucky and his wife Jen have three daughters and live in San Diego, with the world’s largest private bowl right in the backyard. And yes, he’s great at skating that too.
