Chris Doyle got a late start in BMX – he didn’t even start riding until 1993 – and after picking up his first sponsor just three years later, he hasn’t looked back. Then, after signing a paycheck that read, “Chris agrees to get rad for a whole year,” Doyle went pro in 1998.
And rad he got. Finishing on the podium in nearly every contest he entered in the early 2000s, the Pittsburgh native earned the overall title on the DK Dirt Circuit in both 2000 and ’01. With a bronze and a trio of silver medals at the Gravity Games’ dirt contests between 2000 and ’03, Doyle also claimed bronze at the X Games in 2002 and ’03, improving to a pair of silvers in 2004 and ’05.
But despite all the accolades, Doyle, whose 6’3” frame gives him a unique, smooth style that allows him to throw some of the cleanest turndowns in the business, still just rides for fun. Even with all the contest wins, magazine covers and video parts, Doyle is on his bike because that is where he likes to be.
