Wilson turned professional with a strong amateur pedigree that included two AMA Amateur National titles and the most outstanding rider award. His story is a unique one:  Born in Scotland, raised in Alberta, Canada (Calgary) and now transplanted in Southern California to chase his childhood dream of winning an AMA Supercross/Motocross Championship. He uses his long, lanky frame to leverage his bike over rough terrain, and with the backing of one of the best teams in the business, he appears destined for greatness.

Entering his sophomore season as a professional, Wilson built on his successes from 2010. Riding for the Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki team during his rookie season, the Scottish born rider collected two Lucas Oil Motocross National wins in the 250cc class, as well as helped his United Kingdom Motocross of Nations team nearly grab a spot on the podium at the international event.

A rising star on the tour, Dean Wilson just missed a win in his rookie SX season, but he delivered big in Lucas Oil Motocross by winning the 250 Championship title in 2011. In a year dominated by Wilson and his Pro Circuit teammates Tyla Rattray and Blake Bagett, Wilson led the way with 11 moto wins, but only had 3 overall wins to show for it, fewer than either Rattray or Baggett. Earlier in the season, Wilson had finished as the runner-up in the 250SX East Region, totalling three race wins.

Wilson was unable to defend his #1 plate during the 2012 outdoor season though. During the Seattle Supercross stop, Dean Wilson went down while battling Eli Tomac for position and suffered a shoulder injury. He finished out the remainder of the SX season, placing 2nd overall in regional points behind Tomac. Deano made an effort to line up at the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross opener at Hangtown, but unable to ride through the injury, pulled off the track midway through the first moto and soon announced that he was done for the season.

Healed up and ready to move up to the premier class for 2013, Wilson was one of Silly Season's hot free agents. He landed a ride with Jeff Ward Racing to ride a 450 Kawasaki, but as things progressed, the JWR team was forced to fold, parting ways with Wilson and leaving him without a ride once again. Pro Circuit stepped up and offered to re-sign Wilson, agreeing to get him on the 450 for the 2013 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross season. As a result, Wilson will have the chance to progress his career while still remaining on one of the sport's elite squads.
