Kaitlyn Farrington’s path to becoming a pro includes growing up on a ranch in Idaho and funding her early snowboarding trips by selling some of the family's cows.
When she first started snowboarding in fifth grade, her initial attempts fell a little short. After catching her edge again and again – and getting laughed at from the chairlifts above – Farrington was determined to master the sport.
She joined her local snowboarding team in ninth grade and quickly progressed to the point where she was invited to join the US Snowboarding’s 2008 Rookie Team. Farrington claimed a number of first- and second-place finishes over the course of the season. She finished out the year with second place overall on the ’08 Revolution Tour and second at the Junior Worlds halfpipe competition.
Though she prefers slopestyle to superpipe, Farrington’s arsenal of pipe tricks – including Cabs, frontside 900s, switch, backside spins and McTwists – have quickly set her apart from the competition. In 2010 alone, the Sun Valley, Idaho native won the Aspen Snowmass Open and X Games Europe, took second at the US Open, third at the final stop of the Grand Prix and first at the final stop of the 2009-10 Winter Dew Tour, which earned her the year-end Dew Cup.
