Considered by many to be the Queen of Style, Kjersti Buaas followed in her older sister’s footsteps and started riding in 1994. Hooked after her first time on a board, Buaas won the World Junior Championships just five years later, kick starting her competitive career and establishing herself as a force to be reckoned with.
With humble beginnings, Buaas worked as a cleaning lady at her friend’s company to raise money while she was in high school. That is until she signed her first professional contract in 2000 and went on to win a World Cup contest the same year. As one of the few girls invited to the Arctic Challenge in 2001, Buaas has secured an invitation every year since, taking second in the ’05 Big Air contest with a stylish frontside 720.
Also making a name on the international stage, Buaas qualified for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and finished fourth. At the Games in Torino in ’06, Buaas claimed the bronze medal – just a week after completing the recovery process for a broken leg.
Claiming third place on the TTR World Snowboard Tour in 2007-08, Buaas is also known for having a creative side, taking pictures while she travels and filming and editing her own videos, including her world premiere rap video.
