Mike Metzger

Mike Metzger spent three years off his bike, and those three years were the first ones of his life. That's it.

A pioneer in his sport, Metzger is often credited as one of a select few individuals who was responsible for taking his sport to an entirely new realm. From Huntington Beach, CA, Metzger was ripping before he even knew how to read.

Throwing back-to-back flips to win gold at the 2002 X Games sealed the deal and from that point forward, Metzger's name was etched into the pages of every action sport history book. In July of 2002, Metz became the first person to successfully land a ramp-to-dirt backflip on a full-size bike, then started adding variations to the backflip. Talk about pushing the envelope, in 2003, he landed his first backflip on snow and ice.

Recognized as the "Godfather of freestyle motocross," Metz has always been an innovator and the creative force behind what many of the riders are throwing today. Always on the cutting edge, Metzger shifted his talents in 2003 to Supermoto, where he won the 2003 U.S. National Supermoto in Phoenix. Again Metz demonstrated his complete package of talent in the sport, competing in off-road, supermoto and big air events. Can you say triple threat? Simply put, if it has two wheels, Metz is going to rip on it, and he's not going to be satisfied until he's the best.
