Heavily influenced by fellow countrymen like Antti Autti, Heikki Sorsa and Janne Korpi, Peetu Piiroinen has been competing since 1997 and is known for riding every type of competition – from big air and slopestyle to quarterpipe and superpipe.
Riding since the age of seven, Piiroinen’s list of accomplishments, before he even turned 23, make it clear that he the rider to beat in any contest he enters.
After finishing the 2007-08 TTR World Snowboard Tour in third place overall, Piiroinen was on fire the following season, claiming second in the Nissan X-Trail Jam Big Air, Burton European Open slopestyle, Billabong Air and Style quarterpipe and the Burton US Open halfpipe. Also winning the O’Neill Evolution quarterpipe event, the Finnish rider took the title at the TTR Tour champion for the 2008-09 season.
Piiroinen became the first rider to claim back-to-back TTR titles, repeating the feat in 2009-10 after winning both the slopestyle and superpipe competitions at the Burton European Open. Then, at the 2010 Olympics, Piiroinen claimed the silver medal in Vancouver – the best result a Finnish rider has had at the Games.
