Vicki Golden entered the 2009 outdoor nationals as a bit of unknown. Although she won the AMA Loretta Lynn’s Amateur National in 2009, her late announcement of contending the women’s pro class kept her in the shadow of Fiolek, Patterson, and Cruse as well as fellow rookie Sara Price. After just a pair of races, Golden became a regular face at the front of the pack, battling for podium finishes and out-racing her amateur rival Price in the early portion of the season. Unfortunately, injury cut Golden’s season short but she returns for her sophomore campaign with a solid team and enhanced motivation.
