Ams Take Over Pro Town, USA for Gatorade Free Flow Tour

Known as the home of some of the biggest stars in the BMX world, Greenville, NC’s nickname, Pro Town, USA, is pretty well deserved. But this past weekend, the ams of BMX were in the spotlight as they took over Greenville’s Jaycee Extreme Park for one of the last Gatorade Free Flow Tour BMX park contests of the season.

With Quinn Semling handling the emcee gig and BMX pros Mike Laird, Colin Mackay, Dan Foley and Diogo Canina doing the judging, there were plenty of Dew Tour pros just hanging out for the day and scoping out their future competition. Daniel Dhers, Andy Buckworth, Ryan Guettler, Vince Byron and last year’s BMX park champion Matt Whyatt were all in attendance, cheering on the nearly 40 competitors at Jaycee.

A contingent of Aussies dominated the competition, taking three of the five top spots. But when it was all said and done, Andrew Ahumada took first place with his flair whip, 360 whip over the spine, flair 360 and a 360 downside triple whip. Ahumada’s riding was definitely some of the best we’ve seen this season, and it’s even more impressive considering he broke his chain at the very beginning of the final jam but, with the help of his fellow Australians, was able to recover in record time and throw down his winning tricks.
