Two-time AMA/WMA women’s motocross champion Ashley Fiolek just added another talent to her resume. The 19-year old authored an inspiring memoir that chronicles her remarkable rise to success in the motocross world and the obstacles she overcame along the way.
“Kicking Up Dirt” follows the life of Fiolek, who was born deaf and spent her first years as a shy and introverted child. All that changed when she turned 7 and her parents encouraged her to join the amateur motocross circuit.
Fiolek turned pro in ‘07 and overcame broken bones and spectacular crashes to win the WMA championships in ’08 and ’09, as well as an X Games gold medal.
Nine-time X Games gold medalist and former Dew Tour athlete Travis Pastrana knows firsthand that Fiolek won’t let an obstacle get in the way of her passion.
“It's difficult to imagine that such a petite girl with a warm smile could be so phenomenal in an extreme sport like motocross.,” Pastrana said. “But Ashley Fiolek’s not just good for a girl...she’s flat‐out good. When she’s on her dirt bike, she’s no longer just a deaf girl – she is a tough, confident, competitive racer who has overcome enough in her life to know that nothing is impossible.”
The hardcover book with color photos will be available April 27 for $21.99.
