Ryan Villopoto Grabs Third Win at Dallas Supercross, Millsaps Remains Consistent

This hasn't been the most consistent season for defending champion Ryan Villopoto, but when he has it together, he's capable of being the fastest rider on the track. Tonight was one of those nights for RV1, as he captured his 3rd win of the season.

As the gates dropped on the 450 Main Event, Villopoto and points leader Davi Millsaps got off to a neck-and-neck start, but Villopoto put himself out front by the time they hit the 2nd turn. With a clear track in front of him, the Monster Energy Kawasaki rider was able to get in a groove and pull away from the pack, leading wire-to-wire to grab the win and move into a tie for 6th place all-time with 27 Supercross wins.

It was another consistent ride for Davi Millsaps, who settled into 2nd behind Villopoto, following a pass on the inside of Chad Reed, and held that position for the duration of the race. MIllsaps still has yet to finish outside the top 4 and increased his points lead over Ryan Dungey by 2 as the series heads to Atlanta.

Behind Villopoto and Millsaps, a good battle developed for the final podium spot between Chad Reed and Ryan Dungey. After Millsaps got back around Reed for 2nd on Lap 4, Dungey started tracking down the TwoTwo Motorsports rider for 3rd. With six laps to go, Dungey was finally able to grab the position with an aggressive block pass on the inside of Reed.

Justin Brayton turned in another strong race, rounding out the top five. Team Muscle Milk Honda riders Justin Barcia and Trey Canard finished behind him in 6th and 7th, respectively. Matt Goerke's impressive under-the-radar season continued with an 8th place finish, while privateer Andrew Short and RCH Racing's Broc Tickle made up the rest of the top ten.

Absent from the Main Event was James Stewart, who had won his heat race for the 2nd week week in a row. Unfortunately James was unable to even start the Main due to an issue with his bike's clutch, something he described as a "freak accident." The Yoshimura Suzuki rider was turning faster laps than any rider in either heat race, so his absence was definitely a disappointment.
