Eighteen-year old Ishod Wair skated to his best result in an amateur contest winning the Phoenix AM this weekend at the Rio Vista Skatepark in Peoria. Young ripper Curren Caples, who qualified first, got second in the finals and CJ Dixon, a Gatorade Free Flow Tour winner in Miami last year got third overall.
In its ninth year the Phoenix AM has continued to draw a massive following of amateur skateboarders, 160 to be exact, all hoping to break on to the scene and make a name for themselves.
Ishod, who actually made it into the 2008 Tampa Am contest with no sponsors but great video footage, started slow but gained momentum throughout the contest qualifying eleventh and then winning the semi-finals. Jeremy Peckham won the Best Trick competition, followed by Aaron “Jaws” Homoki and Jordan Maxham.

Other Gatorade Free Flow Tour riders in the contest included Alec Majerus making the finals and finishing eleventh and Chase Webb, Jack Olson, Alex Longcamp and Tyson Bowerbank all making it as far as the semi-finals.
The Gatorade Free Flow Tour starts up in May at Rye Airfield in New Hampshire. The full schedule will be released at the end of the month.
