The Dew Tour, the world’s premiere season-long action sports tour, today announced Aaron Ross as the Standout Rider from the Nike 6.0 street specialty competition as voted on by fans through RideBMX.com. The first ever street specialty competition took place at the Nike 6.0 BMX Open, June 26-27 in Chicago’s Grant Park.
“To be chosen the Standout Rider feels really good,” Ross said. “The guys that I rode with in the contest and the entire group of riders were some of the best in BMX. My votes went to Garrett and Danny; I thought their video parts were amazing. It’s awesome to be picked because I think they deserved it more than me.”
As the winner of the Standout Rider award, Ross will receive a $1,000 bonus.
The street specialty competition consisted of nine riders divided into teams of three with one filmer per team. Based on their X Games 14 podium finishes, Garrett Reynolds, Van Homan and Sean Sexton were named team captains of the street specialty competition. As captains, each hand selected their two other teammates for the contest. Reynolds chose JJ Palmere and fellow Nike 6.0 rider Dennis Enarson, while Homan selected Randy Brown and Chase DeHart. Sexton opted for Aaron Ross and Danny Hickerson.
Filming time was designated to each team on the street course, and following the end of a 20-minute jam session that took place on June 26, each filmer edited the footage into a three-minute video. All three videos were available on allisports.com and RideBMX.com from Saturday, June 27 through Wednesday, July 1.
After judging the 20-minute jam session, along with the Walter Peringer-created video, the team of Sean Sexton, Aaron Ross and Danny Hickerson was selected as the winning team of the Nike 6.0 street specialty competition.
