Jamie Bestwick must have thought the Dew Cup he won last year for BMX Vert was getting lonely, because he just earned another one to keep it company. Often cited as Verts greatest rider, Bestwick won the final four stops of the Dew Tour this year after picking up a second at the first stop in Louisville. Facing mounting pressure from riders like Chad Kagy, Kevin Robinson, and Simon Tabron, Bestwick held strong, throwing down amazing runs packed with smooth, flowing airs and unbelievable tricks.

Its a great way to end a year that began in uncertainty for Bestwick, who had emergency surgery on his neck not long before the Tour began in June. His doctor recommended retirement, but thats rarely an agreeable option for an action sports athlete. Once I started feeling strong, it was inevitable that I was going to try to make it to Louisville, Bestwick remembers. I had a little bit of luck with me at that contest; a couple of the big hitters didnt quite perform that day so I managed to scrape a good second place, and I think that just kickstarted me for the rest of the year. I managed to put it together at every contest, even while everyone else was turning up the heat.

Bestwicks wife and son flew in from the UK to see his winning performance after enduring two months apart while he tended to bike riding business in the States. The whole family heads back to England on Monday, where Bestwick can finally relax and enjoy his title repeat. As for how hell spend his prize money, Bestwick wasnt planning on anything flashy. Im not much of a spender; I wont be buying a Bentley or a $15,000 Rolex. Ill probably treat my wife to something, just because she has to put up with a lot throughout the year, and Im the one whos usually dishing it out.

After a short break, hes sure to be back on the big ramp, maintaining his chops and working on new moves for next year. The ridings always getting better; everybody steps it up year after year, and theres always somebody whos trying to hunt you down and take the top spot away from you. If his past performances are any indication, Bestwick will most likely remain one step ahead of the competition, reaching for yet another Dew Cup.
