2008 AST Dew Tour leader Blake "Bilko" Williams, local hero Beau Bamburg, and an all-star lineup of FMX riders initiated thunderous applause through Portland’s Memorial Coliseum for the Wendy's Invitational FMX Jam Session.
Bamburg got the biggest crowd response in Portland, as he lives nearby in Gresham, OR and has helped push FMX progression locally, nationally, and on the international competition scene.
Competition for the overall Dew Cup championship will resume next month at the Toyota Challenge in Salt Lake City, and riders Robbie Maddison, Mike Mason, Adam Jones, and Derek Garland put on some freestyle fireworks in Portland to prove they’re ready for it.
Bilko has the lead in the overall point competition over 2007 defending champ Nate Adams, with two FMX competitions remaining on the tour. He’s rehabbing from a shoulder injury at X Games, but after getting back out on his bike in Portland Bilko says he’s ready to fight to hold the top spot.
Just 10 points separate Bilko (100) and Adams (90) in the overall competition. Other riders putting the pressure on in Salt Lake City will include Mathieu Rebeaud (80), currently in 3rd place, and Thomas Pagès (75). In FMX, anything can and will happen: The winner won’t be decided until the final stop in October, at the PlayStation® Pro? in Orlando.
