Dirt Prelims: Nyquist Scores

Nyquist Scores

Dirt Prelims bring good news for Nyquist and a bad headache for Guettler.
After beating down on the dirt course with rain, wind, and high temperatures, Mother Nature gave the riders a bit of a reprieve for the Prelim round. The course itself wasn’t always so forgiving, and nobody felt it worse than Ryan Guettler.

Defending his Dew Tour title, Ryan was 99 percent through an impressive first run when he went down on the final landing. After a double whip and a front flip on the first two jumps, Ryan unveiled a new move: he threw a tailwhip, caught it by the seat, and scissor kicked his legs into a superman. It looked like he had it nailed, but instead he went down hard and got KO’d. He was taken off the course on a stretcher, but he was walking around on his own by the time the Prelims were over. Hell definitely be back in action in Denver.
Ryan Nyquist didn’t waste any time sewing up the first place spot with a barspin backflip, a double truckdriver, and one of his many signature moves, a no-footed can-can barspin. Since only one run is counted, he used his second run to practice (and pull) one of his new tricks, a switch-stance no-handed 360.

One of the standout riders of the Prelim round was undoubtedly Anthony Napolitan. He’s been hitting loads of contests, getting more and more dialed with every passing day. No-handed front flips on the first set are a little risky, but Anthony pulled one clean enough to double whip the second set, and was stoked to make the finals, to say the least.

Cameron White was one of the few riders to turn in two great runs, with perfect double tailwhips followed by frontflips. Corey Bohan spun 360s both ways, all of them packed with variations. Chris Doyle’s smooth and solid riding landed him in yet another final event. Relative newcomers like Mike Cleveland, James Foster, and Chris Gerber picked up tickets to the big show, as did veterans like TJ Lavin and Allan Cooke.

The finalists only have a few hours of rest before going head to head under the lights tonight, but that wont slow them down at all. Nyquist and Bohan will want to finish in the top spot that they’re both pretty accustomed to, but they’ll have plenty of competitors keeping them on their toes. With so many big moves thrown down in prelims, we cant wait to see how crazy it gets in the Finals.
