Welcome to the brand new home page for the 2009 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championships. This site will serve as the online center for all of the official news, event and series information, race previews, post-race wrap-ups, results and championship standings, and much, much more.
Allisports.com will also serve as the new home for the ground-breaking Racer X Motocross Shows, as well as live-event video and audio coverage, lap-by-lap timing and scoring, and exclusive feature videos that go behind the scenes of the world’s most prestigious professional motocross championship.
The Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championships is a 12-round series that stretches all across the United States, beginning Memorial Day Weekend on Southern California and ending on Labor Day Weekend in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The series features three separate championship divisions: the premier 450cc Motocross class, the 250cc Motocross class, and finally the WMA women’s class. All 12 rounds of the series will be featured on SPEED TV with live, same-day and tape-delay coverage, plus three live events on NBC. Times and local listings for all of these events can be found on the Allisports.com/Moto section as they become available.
The Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship attracts the factory teams of every major motocross brand in the sport, including Monster Energy Kawasaki, Honda Red Bull Racing, Rockstar/Makita Suzuki, Factory Yamaha, and the MDK/KTM team. There also such highly-respected satellite teams as Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki, GEICO Powersports Honda, Star Racing Yamaha, Joe Gibbs Racing/Toyota Yamaha, DNA Energy /BTOSports.com/BBMX.com Honda, Candidae/Motosport Kawasaki, Moto Concepts Honda, and many more. Since 1972, the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship has been the proving ground of America’s top motocross athletes. Over the years, the series has also attracted a great deal of international talent, as top riders from such global hotspots as Australia, France, South Africa, New Zealand and England have sent their finest to challenge the Americans on their home soil.
The list of legendary champions to emerge from this series includes Ricky Carmichael, who won an astonishing 10 consecutive AMA Motocross titles between 1997 and 2006, as well as five AMA Supercross titles before he retired in 2007, Bob “Hurricane” Hannah, Ricky Johnson, Jeremy McGrath, David Bailey, James Stewart, Jean-Michel Bayle, and many more. You can research the records and history section of this site to find out more about the greatest motocross heroes of all-time, as well as some fun facts and records about the history of American motocross.
The 2009 season begins a new era in the organization of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship as MX Sports, a Morgantown, West Virginia-based company with a long history in dirt bike racing, has taken over the organizational and commercial rights for the series. Working with the 12 individual event promoters known as the National Promoters Group (NPG), MX Sports has already made considerable improvements with the series in general, pulling together the most compelling television package American motocross has ever seen, as well as making changes in the overall presentation of the series. Most significant among those changes is the move to Saturday-afternoon races for all 12 rounds, followed on Sunday by amateur motocross activities.
MX Sports also formed a strategic partnership with Alli, the Alliance of Action Sports. In addition to the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship, the Alliance includes the highly-regarded properties of the Dew Tour, Winter Dew Tour, Maloof Money Cup, King of Wake Series, China Invitational and the Gatorade Free Flow Tour. From this site you will be able to access content from all of the events and more.
On behalf of MX Sports and Alli, welcome to the 2009 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championships. We hope you will visit often and take full advantage of all of the content and resources available on this site.
