Nyquist, Enarson, and Cranmer take top spots in BMX Dirt at 2009 Wendy's Invitational

The top 3

BMX Dirt finals just finished up at Portland's Rose Quarter Arena. There were 12 riders in the finals and all off them pulled a ton of crazy tricks all day. The amount of tailwhips that were kicked within the hour and a half contest was unbelievable and the course was top notch as always with a big first jump going into a right side hip After the hip there was a lip into a 270 degree berm to the left that led to a roller, then a step down. The last jump was after the step down and was huge, it also had plenty of room for riders to race at it to stick their last tricks of their run.

Legendary rider Ryan Nyquist is still a force to be reckoned with and proved it by sticking tons of barspin and 360 variations on all of the jumps, including 720 double barspins, double truckdrivers, and a backflip 2 1/2 barspin to underhanded catch on the last jump. Yes that's right he landed with his bars backwards and hands upside down!

Nike 6.0's Dennis Enarson held down second place by kicking out a triple tailwhip as well as a no handed one footer to whip and 360 doublewhips. Third place went to New Jersey's Scotty Cranmer who did 360 whips, and a flip whip over the first set to triple tailwhip on the second jump, not bad for his first year in the dirt comp. We will see how they do in tomorrow's Park Competition.

Newcomer Brandon Dosch took 4th place with a run that included a triple tailwhip over the first jump, then a 360 downside tailwhip over the second set, and finishing off with a big 360 double tailwhip.

Australia's Corey Bohan was as smooth as always and busted out tech trail-style combos like a tuck no hander to 1 footed table and a list of 360 variations as well some one footed X-up flips to put him in 5th place. Cory is definately one of the best riders around today and amazed every rider in the building with his unmatched style.

Other crazy moves that went down during the day were Chris Doyle's 180 attempt over the last jump, as well as his usually clicked 360 inverts and 360 turndowns. He fell kind of hard on the 180 attempt but seemed unscathed after the contest. Anthony Napolitan threw down big tricks like no handed front flips and a wild looking 360 indian air seat grab over the last jump. In Napolitan's final run he went for a 360 triple tailwhip but could not manage to roll away from. Chicago's winner Josh Hult also pulled out big tricks like double tailwhips over the first two jumps in both directions and truckdrivers to downside tailwhips.

At the end of the day Ryan Nyquist is still in the lead for the overall Dew Cup in Dirt for the year 16 points ahead of Brandon Dosch who is 10 years younger than him. Dennis Enarson is sitting in third place overall ahead of Josh Hult and Corey Bohan who are both tied in fourth place for the year.
