Since topping the contest podium at the 2009 Wake Games in late April, current wakeboard world champion Rusty Malinoski has slowly been sinking in the King of Wake rankings; failing to make a finals appearance in the series previous two contests. But the “Bone-Crusher” is shaking off the rust and looking to capture the top spot this weekend at the MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour stop in Knoxville, Tenn.
The stop in Knoxville is the third event on the Pro Tour and fourth in the King of Wake series. The top pro wakeboarders on the planet will hit the waters of Fort Loudoun Lake at Volunteer Landing on June 27 & 28 to battle it out behind the MasterCraft X-Star for cash, points and pride.
Rusty Malinoski enters the Knoxville stop as the sixth-seeded rider in the 40-man contest. In 2008, Malinoski had never fallen below the third seed.
“Guys like [Aaron] Rathy and Harley Clifford are just killing it, and if I don’t step up my riding now, they’ll run away with the season,” said Malinoski. “I’m focused, I’m excited and I’m ready to take the win in Knoxville.”
The Humboldt, Sask. native will begin his campaign for a win in Knoxville starting Saturday, June 27 for the opening round of the MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour stop.
