Ryan Sheckler is the undefeated Dew Cup champ with back-to-back-to-back wins since the Dew Tour’s debut in 2005, and is starting his way back to the top of the Standings, after a first place finish in Portland; his second win of the season.
Sheckler’s on unfamiliar ground this year, playing catch up to his friend and teammate Paul Rodriguez in the overall standings after a tough fall, elbow injury, and 7th place finish in Cleveland set him back.
No sign of the injury holding him back here in Portland though. He dominated the Skate Park Finals, posting an enormous Run 2 score of 89.50 with huge tricks like a hard flip down the big three-stair set on a street-inspired park course. That score put him way ahead of P-Rod, Greg Lutzka, Curtis Colamonico, Chaz Ortiz, and Austen Seaholm heading into the top-six jam session, where Sheckler got the job done handily.
“It's exciting to be back on the podium,” says Sheckler. “I thought I was going to have a heart attack last time when I didn't make it, and I'm very blessed to make it back up here and skate so good against Paul, Greg, and Chaz and everybody.”
Sheckler’s been busy filming for the 3rd season of his MTV series Life of Ryan and added an X Games gold medal to his Dew Cup collection earlier this month. Sheckler says he’s been busy helping get a new skatepark built in his hometown of San Clemente, CA, and he also helped raise a ton of money for charity this month, hosting a celebrity golf tournament in California. Golf? No, Sheckler’s not looking to switch careers. Some new ink tattooed across his forearms proves his priorities are still with his first love.
“I got ‘Skate Life Til Death’ on my forearms,” says Sheckler. “It just reminds me every day, this is what got me where I am, and this is what's going to take me through life. I feel blessed.”
After a big win in Cleveland, P-Rod is still the leader in the overall standings for the 2008 Dew Cup championships, with a total of 270 points so far. Due to a seventh place finish in Cleveland, Sheckler sits second in the standings with 253 points, bumping him just ahead of 14 year-old rookie Chaz Ortiz, with 250 points. With just two stops left as the AST Dew Tour heads into Salt Lake City and Orlando, Sheckler will need a few more big wins to take the lead. He’s been known to prove that anything is possible.
“My man Sheckler... you can never count him out,” says P-Rod, Sheckler’s teammate on the Plan B Skateboards team. “He's my good friend and he skated brilliantly today. He's a hard man to beat and he's a great skater, so I'm going to have to work hard if I'm going to maintain this lead. Ideally I'd like to win the next two stops, but hopefully I can get at least one more win and try to solidify this thing.”
P-Rod says the biggest winners of the day were skate fans in Portland who got to see great skateboarding on a great new Dew Tour course designed specifically to suit street skaters.
“I love Portland, man,” says P-Rod. “I come here so much I'm thinking about investing and getting a little townhouse or condo up here. I have a great time every time I'm up here, Nike takes great care of me, and I love hanging out with the guys over at Department of Skateboarding and skating their park over there. Portland's like a home away from home for me, so it's great to be on the podium here today with some of my favorite skaters and best friends.”

Nonetheless, he chose perhaps one of the tackiest ways to go about appreciating this. Yeah sure, hdi certification there’s absolutely nothing wrong with forever branding your body with a memorable, symbolic marking…However, bicsi rcdd getting such a BULKY, TACKY tattoo for that purpose completely undermines the beautiful motivation behind it. I love Ryan’s style and personality, but he has cheapened himself more than ever and now looks tacky as hell. Come on, braindump Ryan…couldn’t you at least have waited a little longer before you got your tattoo?! (I mean, he has already proven to us that teenagers do stupid shit with his huge SHECKLER tattooed across your back…and now SKATE LIFE TILL DEATH in 120938209830983 pt font on your arms?!!!

Ryan Sheckler is the most loved yet the most hated skater there is. My opinion is that he is the best skater the world has ever seen. But I also think he is the superman of skateboarding but without a weakness, I mean no one beat this guy, so to me Ryan sheckler is a legend, no! A GOD at skateboarding!!!!!

Ryan Sheckler is almost a legend, he turned pro at 13 and was kickfliping from about 20 ft when he was 15.
This guy deserves more respect than he gets
