Off The Sled And Into The Dirt

From snow to dirt, freestyle rider Justin Hoyer takes his freestyle moves from the snowmobile to his motocross bike in Denver. Dew Tour sits down with Hoyer to get the LD.

Q: Where are you from?
A: I’m from Ellsworth, Wisconsin, its pretty far north. In the winter I do snowmobiling and in the summer I ride motocross. I do freestyle on both.

Q: What is the biggest difference between jumping a snowmobile and a motocross bike?
A: Well the tricks are pretty much the same, but the weight of the machine and how you balance the machine are a lot different. A snowmobile has three points of balance, whereas a bike has two. A snowmobile is a little bit more stable but a lot more awkward. If you are flipping a snowmobile you have to wait until you are completely off the ramp until you start pulling because it fights you when you are on the ramp and you lose a lot, but on a bike you start pulling back when you are still on the ramp.

Q: Have you been on your bike a lot?
A: I’ve been on the bike for two months solid, its hard to catch up. My other season just ended, I don’t do any IFMA during the winter and try to do the best I can.

Q: What tricks have you been working on?
A: Just been working on flip variations and the underflip and starting to do variations with that and just pull a good solid run.

Q: What do you think about the FMX course in Denver?
A: The course is pretty dry and dusty but that will change with time. The back-to-back hits will be good when I get them dialed in so I can fit more tricks into each run. The course in Louisville was a little spaced out so it should be better here.

Q: Is there anybody that helped you get out here?
A: Yeah, I have a great family of sponsors that help me out. Parts Unlimited, Thor, KTM, Alpinestars, Kicker Car Audio, Ogio, and American Racing Wheels have all been good to me.
