The first motos are down in both classes at Millville, Minnesota’s Spring Creek MX Park, round seven of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship, and local boy Ryan Dungey of the Rockstar/Makita Suzuki squad got off to a good start.
Dungey grabbed the 250cc holeshot and led every lap, eventually winning by well over 30 seconds ahead of title rival Christophe Pourcel of the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki squad.
Next came GEICO Powersports Honda teammates Justin Barcia and Brett Metcalfe, who traded the spot in the last couple of laps. Fifth was Division 7/Star Racing Yamaha’s Broc Tickle, then the winner of the last two rounds, Jake Weimer.
Kyle Cunningham was seventh, while another local boy, Alex Martin (in a fill-in ride for the GEICO team) was a career-high eighth.
In the 450cc class, another Suzuki got the holeshot, but this time it was Chad Reed. However, only a couple of laps into the race, he was passed by JGR/Toyota Yamah’s Josh Grant, and although Reed pressured him for most of the rest of the race, Grant hung on to win his second moto in a row. Reed was second and his teammate and fellow Aussie Michael Byrne was third.
Canidae/Motosport Kawasaki’s Tommy Hahn was fourth in front of Honda Red Bull Racing’s duo of Ivan Tedesco and Andrew Short.
The second motos are set to go off in a few minutes.
