A new era pushed their way through skate Vert Prelims in Portland when the four young guns showed the crowds why they are competing with the legends. Skate Vert fans at the Wendy’s Invitational in Portland were in for a sweet surprise when the small clan of underage kids all made the finals.
People who follow skateboarding know that the average age of Vert riders are generally older, some of them already with families and kids. But, there are four kids that are trying to change the age range in the sport.
Alex Perelson, 17 from San Diego, wowed the crowds when he qualified third in Prelims. Josh Stafford, also 17 from San Diego, showed the veterans that he wouldn’t hold back when he qualified in fourth. Adam Taylor, 18 from Florida and no stranger to getting huge airs, finished in fifth in prelims, where buddy Rob Lorifice, 20 of Carlsbad, CA rounded out the prelim qualifiers in a steady sixth place.
So, it seems the tides could be changing in Skate Vert, and the “elders” will have to watch their backs as these young guns want to take center stage. Watch out Salt Lake, no one is going to be holding back at this year’s Toyota Challenge!

Its quite amazing that that such young kids are making money duing flips in the air. It makes me wonder how these 17 year olds have almost as much practice as these 30-40 year olds. But no-one tops Tony Hawk. People hate on him to much. Just because he's older and better than them, it dosen't mean he shouldn't get credit for all the tricks he made.
