Shawn was one of the Winter Dew Tour judges for the Snowboard Superpipe and Slopestyle events. He said the pouring rain during the Snowboard Pipe Finals was the perfect finale, since we had enjoyed classic California bluebird skies and 40 degrees the first few days of the tour stop. "Today was actually really random for there to be rain--it was so awesome. The weather switched it up on everyone and we got different winners," he said. "I was really excited to see Mason Aguirre land a run a lot of people were rooting for. To me, it was almost the funnest final of the season because of how unexpected the top-5 were."


A sample of Shawn's paintings were on the walls inside the Dew Underground tent. “I was invited [to show my work] in one of those great small-shred-community ways. My old friends from Mammouth--who I used to stay with and ride park with--spread the word about my art when they heard Dew Underground was looking for local talent,” he said, adding he strives to keep his work from becoming super serious.


Through his art, Shawn said he's "not trying to make some pop culture reference or be clever or profound. I just want it to look good on your wall."


Shawn prefers to gift his art to friends and donate his art-proceeds, as he recently donated the earnings from a commissioned mural to a Sacramento homeless shelter.


“I don’t intend on being a working artist," he said. Between course- design and construction, competition judging and general snowboard industry consulting work, Shawn said he's content to keep his artwork a hobby.
