Competition Format
Divisions
Competitions will be split into the following divisions:
Junior Jam (Skate & BMX)
* Boys and Girls ages 12 and younger.
* Designed for the younger beginner / intermediate skaters and BMX riders who are trying to gain experience competing in contests.
* Competitors who have the ability to compete in the Open division are encouraged to do so.
* The winner of the Junior Jam does not win a trip to the Free Flow Finals.
Gatorade Free Flow Open (Skate)
* Boys and Girls ages 18 and younger.
* Designed for intermediate skaters who would like to gain contest experience as well as experienced skaters who are after the challenge of skating against the areas top talent.
* The winner of each regional Gatorade Free Flow Open will earn a trip to the GFFT Finals in Salt Lake City.
Gatorade Free Flow Open (BMX)
* Boys and Girls ages 21 and younger.
* Designed for intermediate BMX riders who would like to gain contest experience as well as experienced BMX riders who are after the challenge of riding against the areas top talent.
* The winner of each regional Gatorade Free Flow Open will earn a trip to the GFFT Finals in Salt Lake City.
Formats
GFFT recommends that all parks run their contests following jam format. If a park decides that jam format is not the best option they will communicate this with GFFT staff who will approve their recommended format before contest day.
Skate Park – Jam Sessions
* Split field of competitors in heats of 4-7 competitors.
* Each heat will have an open jam of 4-6 min.
* Pre determine the exact number of competitors in each heat, timing for each heat, and how many rounds of competitions before event starts.
* After first round top (#) overall competitors advance to Quarter Finals. The actual number (#) of competitors should be less than half of the original number of competitors. If there is not enough competitors or time constraint move straight to Semi Finals
* Quarter Finals should consist of 25-40 competitors.
* Top (10-15) overall competitors from Quarter Finals advance to Semi Finals.
* TOP 5 COMPETITORS ADVANCE TO FINALS.
* After Final heat top three competitors will be chosen and 4th and 5th place will also be named.
BMX Park - Controlled Jam Session
* Split field of competitors in heats of 4-7 competitors
* Each heat will have a controlled jam of 10-12 min.
* A controlled jam consists of riders going in a pre determined running order for 30 sec each or until he or she falls. Two BMX riders should never be on the course at the same time.
* Pre determine the exact number of competitors in each heat, timing for each heat, and how many rounds of competitions before event starts.
* After first round top (#) overall competitors advance to Quarter Finals. The actual number (#) of competitors should be less than half of the original number of competitors. If there is not enough competitors or time constraint move straight to Semi Finals
* Quarter Finals should consist of 25-40 competitors.
* Top (10-15) overall competitors from Quarter Finals advance to Semi Finals.
* TOP 5 COMPETITORS ADVANCE TO FINALS.
* After Final heat top three competitors will be chosen and 4th and 5th place will also be named.
Example – Junior Jam (30 competitors sign up)
* Run 6 heats of 5 competitors in each heat
* Top 10 overall competitors advance to the semi-finals
* Semifinals consist of 2 heats with 5 competitors each
* Top 5 competitors advance to finals
* Finals consist of 1 heat of 5 competitors
* Competition time 45 min, total 1.5 hours
Example – Gatorade Free Flow Division (100 competitors sign up)
* Run 15 heats of 6-7 competitors in each heat
* Top 40 competitors advance to quarterfinals.
* Quarterfinals consist of 8 heats of 5 competitors
* Top 15 competitors advance to semifinals
* Semifinals consist of 3 heats of 5 competitors
* Top 5 competitors advance to finals
* Finals consist of 1 heat of 5 competitors
* Competition time 2.5 hours, total 4 hours
Skateboard Vert Format
* Divide competitors into 2 heats (heat 1 older competitors, heat 2 younger competitors)
* Prelims - Each competitor in Heat 1 will get 2 timed 45 second runs. Followed by 2 timed 45 runs from Heat 2
* Best run counts
* Top 10 overall competitors advance to finals
* Finals – each competitor will get 3 timed 45 second runs
BMX Vert Format
* Finals Only – each competitor will get 3 timed 45 second runs.
* Best run counts
Competition Info
Gatorade Free Flow Tour (GFFT) participants must complete three (3) forms: GFFT Entry Form, Alli Liability/Publicity Release, Host Venue Waiver to be signed by contestant’s parent or legal guardian on site or be notarized if contestant is under 18 years of age. Forms are available online at www.gatoradefreeflowtour.com and at host parks two weeks prior to their scheduled contest. Check out website for the list of participating parks and contest dates. In addition, contestants must pay contest fee if applicable prior to the admittance to the park
ELIGIBILITY
The GFFT is open to skateboarders 18 years of age or younger, and BMX riders 21 years of age or younger on the day of the regional event, male or female. All competitors must be of Amateur Status. Contest is open to competitors from any country; however Alli will only provide flights to the finals from airports within the USA. The Junior Jam is dedicated to beginner skateboarders and BMX riders age 12 and under. Winners of the Junior Jam do not qualify for the GFFT Finals. Employees and immediate family of Alli, Gatorade, Fuse, any participating partner of the GFFT are not eligible to compete.
AMATEUR vs. PRO
All GFFT competitors must be considered an amateur athlete to participate in the event. The following guidelines determine amateur eligibility:
* If you have competed in a Dew Tour event, including Open Qualifiers, you are considered a professional. The only exception would be if you have ever received a special invitation from the Dew Tour –as an amateur- and you maintained your amateur status.
* Any participant, including winners, of past Free Flow Tour stops are eligible to compete as long as they have maintained an amateur status and meet all other requirements.
* If you have competed in a professional contest and accepted prize money you are considered a professional.
Alli and GFFT Management will confirm an athlete’s amateur status prior to each contest and will notify participants if they are NOT eligible to compete. Alli and GFFT Management reserve the right to further look into an athlete’s amateur status following each GFFT event and prior to the GFFT Finals. Alli and GFFT Management reserve the right to disqualify an athlete at any time if they do not adhere to the guidelines stated above.
COMPETITOR RULES
These rules are general guidelines for competing at the GFFT. Rules are subject to change and can vary at each park. The GFFT and it’s host parks reserve the right to amend the rules if need be.
* Contestants must abide by park policy on helmets and clothing while on park.
* No stickers are to be placed anywhere on the park. Doing so will forfeit your spot in the GFFT with no refund. Stickers are only allowed on your personal property.
* Cursing, fighting, or rough play is not permitted at any GFFT event.
* All contestants must respect the direction of the park staff.
* There is to be no skating or riding on obstacles unless designated as your warm-up, your heat, or an open session.
* Please respect others and be aware of your surroundings as to avoid collision.
* All competitors must have filled out and signed all appropriate paperwork including the liability release waiver to enter.
PRIZES
Prizing (TBD) will be handed out to the top 3 winners from the GFFT Skate and BMX Vert and Park competitors, and the Junior Jam winner. Prizing will be provided by the GFFT partners.
The winners of the GFFT Skate and BMX Vert and Park competitions will receive the following:
* Two (2) nights standard occupancy hotel accommodations.
* Transportation to/from airport, hotel, and venue.
* Four (4) meals.
* If competitor is under the age of 18 on the day of departure a guardian or chaperone will be accommodated in the same terms.
The winners of the Gatorade Free Flow Finals win:
* A trip to Orlando, FL to the Dew Tour’s PlayStation Pro.
* Earn entry into the prelims against the pros.
* Standard occupancy hotel accommodations during the duration of the event.
* Transportation to/from airport, hotel, and venue.
* Two (2) meals per event day.
* If competitor is under the age of 18 on the day of departure a guardian or chaperone will be accommodated in the same terms.
All travel must be taken on dates specified by GFFT. No alternate travel dates available. If winner is unable to travel on the dates designated by GFFT then the trip prize will be forfeited in its entirety with no compensation being paid in exchange. Therefore, GFFT reserves the right to hand the trip to the runner up of the event that generated the winner.
No responsibility is assumed by GFFT for any travel delays or travel cancelations. Any expenses incurred by the winner that are not specifically included in the trip prize description above are the sole responsibility of the winner. Any difference between stated approximate value and actual value of the trip prize will not be awarded.
No substitution of prize is offered, no transfer of prize to a third party is permitted, and non-cash prizes may not be redeemed for cash value, except as determined by GFFT in its sole discretion. Void wherever prohibited or restricted by law. All contestants, as a condition of entry, agree to be bound by these Official Rules and the decision of the judges that shall be final and binding.
WINNER NOTIFICATION
Prize winners of each contest will be notified that day once the judges have selected the winners. Winners may be required to sign and return an Affidavit of Eligibility/Liability Release with (where lawful) a publicity release within (7) days of the date first written on the notification letter. If any required documents are not returned within the required number of days, or if mail is returned to Sponsor as undeliverable mail without a forwarding address, the prize may be forfeited. If applicable, allow 2-3 weeks for delivery of trip prize information following completion of notification process.
RELEASE OF LIABILITY
All winners, by acceptance of a prize, agree to release the applicable Skate Parks, ALLI, NBC, Fuse LLC, Sponsor and its Promotion Parties from any and all liability, claims or actions of any kind whatsoever for injuries, damages or losses to persons and property which may be sustained in connection with the receipt, ownership or use of the prize or while preparing for, participating in, and/or traveling to and/or from any prize-related activity or any typographical or other error in these Official Rules or in the announcement or offering of any prize. Sponsor makes no representation or warranty of any kind concerning the appearance, performance or safety of any prize. Winner bears all risk of loss or damage to prize after it has been delivered. Upon request, winners must consent (and confirm such consent in writing) to the use of their name, voice, picture or other likeness in any without compensation for promotional purposes in all media as determined by Sponsor.
Free Flow Tour will be judged based on the following criteria:
* Overall Style and Board/Bike Control.
* Variety of Tricks and Park Usage.
* Technical Ability.
* Consistency.
* Attitude.
Judges will rate which contestant they feel best meets all criteria as set forth above. At the conclusion of each session the Judges will meet, review their ratings and comments and then choose the winner(s) for each heat as a group. In the event of a tie (or Judges are deadlocked on a decision) a 2 minute skate off will occur to determine the winner.
The judges will consist of a total of at least three (3) independent third party judges that are representatives of Fuse, an agent of Sponsor, the hosting Skate Park and, based upon availability, a professional skateboarder/BMX rider. Each of the Judges will have extensive skateboarding/ BMX experience and knowledge of current skateboarding/ BMX trends. Each class will be judged separately based on the same criteria as outlined in Rule 7.
