We love Guillame’s BetaUnit sweatshirt, which he paired with yellow Dragon goggles and a crazy colorful Jeremy Jones-edition Burton Snowboard. Top it off with the official Alli Judge jacket, and--second to an actual competition big--you’ve got the best get-up on the hill.
Guillame was thrilled by the Tahoe's bluebird weather. "It was so warm I could judge with only my underpants! He said the "good, soft conditions" of the Superpipe and Slopestyle course allowed the riders to compete in fine form.
As for life after this year's Winter Dew Tour, Guillame is judging a few more contests before heading to Whistler where he'll participate in the Grenade Games.

Shawn was one of the Winter Dew Tour judges for the Snowboard Superpipe and Slopestyle events. He said the pouring rain during the Snowboard Pipe Finals was the perfect finale, since we had enjoyed classic California bluebird skies and 40 degrees the first few days of the tour stop. "Today was actually really random for there to be rain--it was so awesome. The weather switched it up on everyone and we got different winners," he said. "I was really excited to see Mason Aguirre land a run a lot of people were rooting for. To me, it was almost the funnest final of the season because of how unexpected the top-5 were."
A sample of Shawn's paintings were on the walls inside the Dew Underground tent. “I was invited [to show my work] in one of those great small-shred-community ways. My old friends from Mammouth--who I used to stay with and ride park with--spread the word about my art when they heard Dew Underground was looking for local talent,” he said, adding he strives to keep his work from becoming super serious.
Through his art, Shawn said he's "not trying to make some pop culture reference or be clever or profound. I just want it to look good on your wall."
Shawn prefers to gift his art to friends and donate his art-proceeds, as he recently donated the earnings from a commissioned mural to a Sacramento homeless shelter.
“I don’t intend on being a working artist," he said. Between course- design and construction, competition judging and general snowboard industry consulting work, Shawn said he's content to keep his artwork a hobby.

Since the Breckenridge stop of the Winter Dew Tour, we here at Alli have been handing out Verizon Wireless LG Dare phones to event-goers in promotion of our Alli Inbox program. At each stop since, fans have been operating as harried, hard-nosed reporters as they fill up our Alli Inbox with photos and video snippets capturing their Winter Dew Tour experiences. Here you can browse through video and photo galleries of ski and snowboard runs, event coverage from the sidelines, and man-on-the-street type snapshots. Jamie Anderson records an impromptu interview on her way to a Breckenridge autograph-signing at the Verizon Tent, while Kaitlyn Scott records her first snowboard jump in three years. Below is everything we collected at the Toyota Championship at Northstar-at-Tahoe.

Men's and Women's Superpipe Finals

Posted on Mon Feb 23, 2009

RAIN! Men's and Women's Snowboard SuperPipe Finals competitors and fans alike woke up in Tahoe to the same pitter-patter on their windows, and everyone planning on watching (or competing in), must have been like, hrrmph! By mid-afternoon, however, a solid crowd had gathered at the base of the pipe to cheer on their favorite riders. Garbage sack jackets were the most popular accessory of the day. To have one was like being a very very rich wiseman or something. Trust me, though. Everyone wanted one very badly. Little man, hey. We love your t-shirt, of course, but why the heck aren't you wearing a jacket? It's "slaining" [slain=sleet+rain]! JJ Thomas gets a ride to the top before his first run. At days end, he walked home with fifth place. This family didn’t seem to mind the rain. Dude didn’t take his eyes off the pipe, even when his mom told him to smile for the camera. Spencer O’Brien (right) and Brin Valaira hung out in the rain with the rest of us to support their snowboarder friends. This photo shows exactly how wet it was at the base of the pipe. This guys one of the lucky ones: this could be a gore-tex commercial. My puffy, however, was not so awesome at repelling rain. Tricia Byrnes getting soaked with the rest of us. This guy said he was “fine” in his soaking-wet cotton hoodie and his shorts with boat shoes. We call bullshit. Lizzy Beerman hung out after Womens Pipe Finals to check out the Men's comp. Soaking wet and still looking good. Can’t tell if this girl is smiling or scouling, but she seemed content standing just beyond the crowd, checking out the comp in solitude. Heather was all smiles in her garbage sack poncho. Goes to show: it's not the situation, it's the attitude.

Chairlift Chat: Bobby Brown

Posted on Mon Feb 23, 2009

On a rainy day, running 30-minutes late to the Snowboard Pipe Finals, we hopped on the gondola without really caring who's car we intruded on. Turns out we hitched a ride with #3 in the overall Freeski Slopestyle rankings. 17-year-old Bobby Brown, a Colorado native currently living in Denver, was on his way to watch Pipe final in the pouring rain.
He was super relaxed and up for conversation, and we talked a bit about all the time he's spent in Europe this year. He actually moved out of Breckenridge, where he trains, to Denver, which is an hour away, to be closer to the airport. Funny, huh? Not too many teenagers are relocating to better coordinate their travel schedules. But whatever; he still seemed like any other nice kid having a quaint conversation on the lift.

Leslie has lived in Breckenridge, Colorado, for the last five years. Northstar-at-Tahoe is her second Dew Tour stop. "I love Tahoe; the suns always out," she said.
She received one out of three wildcards up for grabs to compete in the Superpipe Prelim, where she eventually placed ninth. "There's some pressure, but if I just focus on the fun with a positive attitude, I find that I do better and progress".
Leslie's interests reach beyond snowboarding. She got out the vote as a volunteer for the Obama campaign last year and, with a degree in Environmental Biology, she's interested in "keeping snow on our mountains" by spreading awareness about global warming.

These conceptual artists from Southern California are putting their heads together to come up with something new. Their work is inspired by pop culture and, of course, life in SoCal. "When we paint, we just want to have fun. If we come up with an idea that makes us laugh--stupid little jokes or whatever--we'll start from there". The guys met in 2006 when they were in the same art show, and started painting together shortly thereafter. They've been doing a bit of work for LRG and RVCA, and appreciate the style associated with action sports.
They were hard at work for a few days inside the Dew Underground tent, talking to visitors and showing them what goes into their work. Here's a photo of the intricate stencil the guys were working on...

Tahoe local and Slopestyle competitor Bev Vuilleumier was riding with two of her buddies when we caught her on the lift. They were laughing about the jump they built last night in a friend's back yard. There was some kind of “had to be there” back-story about Bev backflipping off the jump, but any outsider could have appreciated the conversation for the “chick doing backflips off a jump” aspect alone. She’s still hanging out with her non-pro buds, even while in the mix of preparing for competition. “There’s all these tight little crews,” she said. “I love my friends here. We have fun”.
Bev grew up in Arnold, California, riding a tiny mountain called Fair Valley up until three years ago when she moved to Tahoe to snowboard.
Bev didn’t do as well as she would have liked, but still remained positive. “You had to lean on your sickest run to get into the Final, and on my sickest run, I fell," she said, ultimately placing ninth in the Slopestyle Prelim. "It's kind of disappointing but this is my first year competing in the bigger competitions," she added. "I’m learning. I was scared on that first jump, but I’m glad I tried it."
Next up, Bev is making a trip to Big Island of Hawaii, where she intends to alternately snowboard, lie on the beach, and surf (The Big Island is good like that). "I need to get tan," she said.
